Employee Assistance Program
Effective September 1, 2021, the City of Portsmouth will be utilizing Optima Health EAP as its Employee Assistance Program Provider.
Optima EAP is committed to providing cost-effective, innovative and flexible Employee Assistance benefits to you as the employee as well as your household members. Whether you have personal or work related challenges, Optima EAP Counselors are compassionate, highly skilled licensed clinicians who provide short term, solution-focused counseling that can help you develop strategies to resolve challenges that impact your daily life.
With up to 5 sessions per issue/concern, the EAP Counselor can help you:
- Manage stress or anger
- Improve family dynamics
- Care for sick or elderly family members
- Address substance abuse/dependency
- Deal with grief or a loss
- Build resilience
- Balance work and life obligations
Virtual Counseling service is available via a smart phone, tablet or desk top computer/laptop. This is a convenient option when face-to-face is not possible and your discussions with our counselors are confidential.

Confidentiality Concerns
Counseling sessions are confidential. The information you share with Optima EAP professionals is protected by state and federal privacy laws. Counseling services provided by Optima EAP fall under the guidelines of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) which means that we can not disclose any identifying information about who uses the benefit without written consent from that individual.
You can feel comfortable and confident getting assistance knowing that services will not create a financial hardship for you and that the information shared with OptimaEAP is protected under state and federal privacy laws. Optima EAP has considerable expertise and clinical knowledge possessed by its clinicians and numerous convenient locations. Optima clinicians are well versed in helping clients of all ages, from young children up to the elderly.
